Dr Charles Gyamfi, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a member of the Management Team of the Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation Centre, Kumasi (RWESCK), has been named Best Mid-Career Researcher at the 2025 KNUST Research Excellence Awards.
The recognition celebrates Dr Gyamfi’s outstanding contributions to research, mentorship, grantsmanship, academic leadership, and institutional development. His work continues to strengthen KNUST’s reputation as a leading institution for impactful research, innovation, and capacity building.
A trained civil engineer with a specialisation in hydrology and water resources management, Dr Gyamfi had his secondary education at Opoku Ware School. He later pursued his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and Master of Science degree in Water Resources Engineering at KNUST. He subsequently obtained a PhD from the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, South Africa.
Dr Gyamfi’s research focuses on understanding the complex interactions between hydrological and environmental systems and their implications for sustainable water resources management. Through his scholarship, he has contributed to the advancement of knowledge in water resources engineering while supporting solutions to critical environmental and water-related challenges.
Beyond his research achievements, Dr Gyamfi has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic leadership and service within the university community. He has played key roles in university examination processes, quality assurance, programme accreditation, and research coordination. These contributions have supported the strengthening of institutional systems and the promotion of academic excellence at KNUST.
His ability to attract research opportunities and participate in international collaborations has further enhanced the visibility and reputation of RWESCK KNUST. It has also created important avenues for innovation, capacity building, mentorship, and scholarly engagement.
As a member of RWESCK’s Management Team, Dr Gyamfi’s recognition is also a proud moment for the Centre, whose work focuses on advancing research, training, and practical solutions in water, sanitation, and environmental sustainability.
